About Rich Shapero

Rich Shapero is a musician, novelist and artist experimenting with a new concept he calls “story told in song.” His vision combines music, novels and fine art.

Shapero collaborates with many of the finest artists and musicians from around the world. His art defies typical categorization, though some have likened it to Art Brut or Outsider Art.

Shapero takes his art directly to the people and shares it through non-traditional and underground experiences incorporating street theatre, dance and installation art, often experienced at arts and music festivals.

About Wild Animus

Rich Shapero’s current project, Wild Animus, began as a powerful and complex novel, which tells the story of a man, Sam Altman, who explores the extremes of human existence, testing himself against the elements in the remote Alaskan wilderness. Altman sheds all the trappings of contemporary human life and ultimately transforms himself into a wild creature, pursued by a pack of strangely familiar wolves.

Following the release of the novel in 2004, the story was developed into a series of paintings and includes the work of Francois Burland – one of the world’s leading Art Brut artists – who brought to life the Wild Animus Art Brut aesthetic.

The latest ingredient to the Wild Animus project is a concept album, the first installment in a three-part series: Wild Animus, Part One: The Ram, which completes the Wild Animus storytelling experience.
